Alex Mazzia
Raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles county. Until relatively recently he was occupied with his family and career and only had a general interest in art and art history.
As he neared retirement he started painting, the subjects being geometric patterns. In 2017 in Portland, Oregon he started studying with Elena Guttman, who introduced him to technical aspects of the style known as cubism. Since then he has explored the style, a journey which continues to the present.
His paintings were entered in the juried competition of the 2019 and 2020 Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, and have been shown at the Sun City Hilton Head Art Club in South Carolina.
Alex is fascinated by the area in art between accurate representation of material things and pure abstraction. Cubism allows the artist within its loose structure a means for improvisation, hopefully one that is aesthetically pleasing.
